SCBWI Dakotas is pleased to offer the following webinar:


School visit expert, Alexis O’Neill, will discuss the nuts and bolts of successful school visits.

Royalties are great. But what’s even greater is meeting — or making — book reading fans. One way to connect professionally is by doing paid school visits. In this 90-minute webinar, author, school visit expert, and SCBWI Bulletin “The Truth About School Visits” columnist Alexis O’Neill will share some secrets of school visit success. In the first 60-minutes, you will learn the importance of:
·       Understanding why school visits can be important to your career.
·       Forming alliances with authors and influencers.
·       Observing authors in action and where to find them.
·       Knowing what kids will learn as a result of your presentation.
·       Identifying how kids will learn what you’re there to teach them.
·       Setting rates.
·       Finding gigs.
·       Dealing with the business side of school visits.
The last 30-minutes will be devoted to your specific questions. This information is will be helpful to those with books about to launch as well as to seasoned professionals looking for a refresher and new insights. 

About the Instructor:
The SCBWI Bulletin “The Truth About School Visits” columnist Alexis O’Neill is the author of The Recess Queen, The Kite That Bridged Two Nations and several other award-winning children’s books. Her PhD in Teacher Education, experience in the classroom, and her many years on the road as a popular presenter uniquely prepared her to bridge the land of authors with the world of schools. An SCBWI Regional Advisor in Central-Coastal California for 18 years, Alexis is also the recipient of the California Reading Association’s Dr. Marcus Foster Memorial Reading Award for her long record of achievements and constant dedication to the advancement of literacy for all children throughout the state of California and is a writing instructor for the UCLA Extension Writers’ Program.  and
