Register today for the Dakotas Region's 2017 Writing Workshop!
Viking Executive Editor Kendra Levin will lead this workshop. If you have a manuscript in progress, this workshop is for you! Ms. Levin will present craft talks, meet with critique groups (assigned before the conference) and give life coaching tips especially designed for writers. This event begins at 5:30 Friday evening, September 15, and ends at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 17.
What's a Writing Workshop?
It's an opportunity to devote quality time to your writing. You'll:
– – gain insights into your writing from an expert (craft talks)
– – consider ways to organize your writing life without losing your sanity (life-coaching)
– – discover what others are writing; what works and what doesn't (critique groups)
– – receive feedback on your current project (critique groups)
– – retreat from the world (if only for a day or two) and focus on your own project
– – enjoy the company of folks who "get" what you do.
Is it right for me?
The answer is "yes" if:
– – you are a writer (from beginner to published) with a manuscript in progress.
– – you are a picture book author/illustrator (at any level) with a manuscript in progress.
– – you are writing for children, young adults, or new adults.
– – you want to improve your writing.
You will be assigned to a critique group on or about September 1, 2017. Your group will include others working on similar projects (picture books, middle-grade novels, etc.). You will exchange your manuscript or a portion of it with the others in the group. (You'll be sent details closer to the workshop date.)

What's it cost?
$225.00 for SCBWI members. This price includes Friday night supper, all meals Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday. The only additional cost is your room ($75 for a double room – so find a roommate). That will make the entire cost $300.00.
$275.00 for non-members. But you can join before registering to get the member rate. Click here to join SCBWI.
