SCBWI Dakotas is pleased to offer the following webinar:

Beating the Odds: Rhythm & Rhyme That Editors Will Love

You hear it all the time– editors DON’T want to see poetry or picture books in rhyme! But book stores and libraries are full of them.

The truth is editors love poetry and rhyming picture books when they are GOOD! In this webinar led by poet and picture book author, Peggy Archer, we’ll explore some ways to write the rhythm that readers will ‘get.’ Then we’ll take a look at how to write the perfect rhyme that will make editors come knocking at your door.

Meet Peggy

PEGGY ARCHER‘s picture book in verse, A Hippy-Hoppy Toad, (Schwartz & Wade 2018) won the SCBWI Work-in-Progress Award for picture book text in 2015. It is a Junior Library Guild selection and appeared on SLJ’s Fuse 8 Production list of 2018 Picture Book Readalouds. Her picture book poetry collections include Name That Dog! Puppy Poems from A to Z (Dial 2010), and From Dawn to Dreams, Poems for Busy Babies (Candlewick 2006). She is the author of board books written in verse for Highlights Press, and her poems have appeared in magazines for children. Visit Peggy at www.peggyarcher.com
